Introduction to Health and Wellness Coaching

KGR Health and Wellness Academy

KGR Health and Wellness Academy is dedicated to developing compassionate, competent nationally board certified health and wellness coaches. The foundation of KGR’s curriculum is based on the core coaching competencies laid out by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching. We provide the knowledge, tools and resources to facilitate behavior change in a structured, supported partnership. Our mission is to provide rigorous course content administered via live lectures with an emphasis on practical skills development through hands-on coaching. Our hands-on learning structure cultivates rapport and builds community within the classroom. This is not only important to successful learning, but also fosters the development of critical coaching skills.

Congratulations! You've been accepted into one of the most rigorous Health and Wellness programs in the nation. We are happy you are here and can't wait to meet you and spend the coming months together.

This is your first week of class for your health and wellness coaching training. Beth, Daffie, and Rae will be your instructors and we are here to support you from start to finish as you embark upon acquiring the national board credential to serve others as health and wellness coaches. All of us at KGR are national board certified coaches (NBC-HWC) and have been coaching and teaching health and wellness for years. When you graduate from this program, you will be eligible to sit for the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) Certifying Examination. The NBHWC has approved KGR's Health & Wellness Coaching Training program for the education and training of health and wellness coaches. We will do everything we can to make you the best coach you can be and properly train you for passing the national exam. Because you have been accepted into our Academy, you will receive a free exam review course starting two months prior to your national exam date. If you are here, you have already been deemed by us to be a great candidate for health and wellness coaching! Congratulations again. Let's get started.

At KGR, we are committed to all of our students. You are valued here. You matter and your contribution to this course is desired. We will learn as much from you as you do from us. So please, speak up, take up space here. You will be treated with respect and dignity and loved for who you are. Because we are dedicated to uncovering and dismantling our own implicit biases, we ask the same of our students. To be the best health and wellness coaches we can be, we do not judge others. We approach every person with an open, calm, beginner's mind, again and again. To help us understand what it means to bring a beginners mind to every moment, please watch this video.

What to expect...

Each week you will complete that week's online work prior to class. So, if a video is posted, please view it before class. If a document is posted, please read it before class. If slides are posted, please review those before class. You get the idea....

The homework and quiz and anything posted below those two should be completed AFTER class each week.

To get a better idea of what this course contains, download (or at least read) the syllabus now.

Please download the next document (KGR Reading Assignments) to your computer. It has all your reading assignments laid out for you, by week. You will need to reference this weekly throughout the course. If you have extra time you can read ahead. Be sure to make notes, underline, outline, or do whatever you do to help you remember information you've read. These texts are invaluable, particularly for the national exam and you will be using them again in the month or two prior to your exam date. You will appreciate having them already organized and highlighted when the time comes.
